When a development combines the city’s best location with a Pritzker Prize – the Nobel of architecture – the result can only be exceptional. Eduardo Souto de Moura designs the residential building that will redefine Cais da Fonte Nova in Aveiro, seamlessly integrating the Ria de Aveiro, green space, and evoking the city’s Art Nouveau heritage in its color palette. And he states, without hesitation: “This is a place where I would love to live!”

“I didn’t want this building to be just another one. This introduction of color, this Aveiro hue, breaks the rigidity of a building strictly tied to pure modernist movement.”

“For exemple, when I designed the ground floor, I envisioned that space as my architecture office. Aveiro is a pleasant city; if I could, I would certainly live in this building since it’s well built and has a beautiful location… this glazed ground floor, with its colonnade, would make a great atelier. I would live upstairs and come down to work.”

“My goal was to create something perfectly suited to both the location and the climate. The brise-soleils have the advantage of filtering the sun while keeping the view intact, both in the living room and the bedroom.”

“Balconies became a place for socializing. It was an almost collective feeling that, after the pandemic, balconies have become extremely important, and we took that into account.”

“Today, kitchens are as beautiful, if not more so, than the living room furniture itself. They have become open spaces, allowing you to be in the kitchen while simultaneously enjoying the view.”
